how to fing out if the server work

i am using the free server for the moment and using dlinkddns
adress
dmorais.dlinkddns.com
that is for this moment . Lather wen everything will be perfect and well working and running good i will change it for my real adress
i need to find out if my server is working and protected how do i do this
sorry if my english writing look's funny dont have much practice
